🎾 RPL: Retail Padel League – Official Match Rules
Play Hard. Play Fair. Play Smart.
By taking to the court, you’re agreeing to the spirit and rules of RPL. This isn’t just a game — it’s the most exciting league in retail.
🔑 Core Principles
We play with respect, energy, and purpose.
RPL is a community built on sport and trust. We want matches to be competitive, friendly, and drama-free.
By joining, you commit to:
- Show up on time, ready to go (kit, shoes, balls ✅)
- Call your own lines, honestly
- Give benefit of the doubt to your opponent if unsure
- Replay points if there’s a dispute
- Let the server call the score
- Stay cool. Don’t lose your head.
- No aggression. No ego.
- Make the league work: arrange your matches, play them promptly, and bring good vibes.
🏟️ Courts & Balls
- Balls must be fresh or high quality. Any player can object to old balls before the match starts.
- If needed, new balls can be purchased at your venue — and costs should be split fairly.
- Court bookings and match setup are your responsibility. Coordinate with your opponents in advance.
📅 Scheduling Matches
- Be proactive. The more you reach out, the more you play — and the more points you can earn.
- Suggest at least three different slots to your opponents.
- If they don’t respond or can’t play any, and you’ve made fair effort, that’s a walkover (4 points to you).
- Always confirm time/location to avoid last-minute confusion.
- Extensions to the round are rare — plan to get matches done within the published window.
🧢 Levels, Groups & Pairings
- Teams are grouped by skill level — but we may adjust placements to ensure fair, competitive play.
- Group sizes: max 6 teams. We may rebalance at any time to improve the experience.
- If you sign up as an individual, we’ll pair you with someone compatible — gender doesn’t matter, playing style does.
- If you don’t play any matches, you risk being dropped or relegated unless you’re injured or unavailable for work reasons (let us know!).
🎯 Match Format & Scoring
- Matches are self-umpired and built on trust.
- Best of 3 sets.
- Set 1 & 2: Tie-break at 6–6 (first to 7, win by 2)
- Set 3: Champions Tie-Break (first to 10, win by 2)
🏆 RPL Points System
- Win 2–0 or Win by Walkover → 4 points
- Win 2–1 → 3 points
- Lose 1–2 → 2 points
- Lose 0–2 → 1 point
- No-show or Walkover Given → 0 points
- You play each opponent once per round.
- Top team = most points.
- Ties are broken by:
- Head-to-head result
- Fewest sets lost (on average)
- If still tied: coin toss (yep, really)
🛑 Walkovers & Forfeits
- To claim a walkover: offer 3 dates. If your opponent doesn’t accept or respond, it’s a 4-point win for you.
- Provide evidence if needed.
- Don’t ghost. Cancel with courtesy and confirmation.
- If you’re 30+ minutes late, that’s a walkover against you.
- If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, your opponent may claim a walkover — but we prefer you play if you can rearrange.
⏱️ Retirements, Rain, & Reschedules
- Weather:
- If unplayable before the match, postpone.
- If rained off during the match, resume from the existing score when possible.
- Injury retirements:
- Opponent gets the win (4 points). Retiring team may earn 2 points if they’ve won a set.
- Safety:
- If court is unsafe, any player can call off the match before or early into play.
- If time runs out:
- Record the score as it stands. Completed sets only count toward points.
📣 Reporting Scores
- Enter results on the RPL Dashboard promptly.
- Double-check your published scores before round ends.
- Falsifying results = possible disqualification! Zero tolerance. Let's play fair people!
- If a dispute happens mid-match, try to finish it. If you can’t, contact us.
